Planing to carry on mineral exploration in the international arena, Turkey took the first step with the MTA Company Limited which was founded under the roof of General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) in Sudan. The company signed an agreement for the exploration of two gold mine. After three years of exploration, mines is planned to start operation. Within the scope of the agreement in Sudan, MTA Company Limited will perform mineral exploration on 1,325 square kilometers.
The next step of the MTA’s international works will be in Uzbekistan. Within 3 months, The company plans to obtain the exploration license of the metallic mine site located in two different regions in Uzbekistan.
According to news in the Yeni Safak, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez stated that they took important steps on determining mineral reserves within the country. Mineral map of the Turkey is almost completed with performed land and aerial geophysical survey works. While Dönmez pointing out that MTA obtained serious accumulation of knowledge with using domestic equipment and domestic human resources, he stated MTA Company Limited was established under the roof of MTA to evaluate this accumulation globally. Dönmez said “We took the first step in mining with MTA Company Limited which we established in Sudan.”
Stating that preliminary mine geology and geochemical studies were started in 6 fields in Sudan and he explained that more than 450 samples were collected and evaluated, Minister Fatih Dönmez said “According to the results of the field studies and the Red Sea near the Red Sea, we decided to officially block the two areas of gold content determined.”
