MTA had obtained the right to operate abroad with the regulation published on the Official Gazette dated August 24, 2017. According to the regulation, MTA’s abroad operations are defined as below;
a) To be able to conduct research, investigation and exploration activities with applied, basic, scientific and technological methods related to earth sciences, to produce geological information, to make research and research studies, to develop programs and projects.
b) To search for, search and find natural resources, to produce, produce and / or operate infrastructure, to collect all kinds of geological and geophysical data, to archive and evaluate this information.
c) To develop mutual programs and projects to improve bilateral cooperation abroad.
d) To make projects, scientific and technical cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions and organizations related to the subjects within the scope of their duty.
Regulation have also showed the importance The Government gives to mining. Within the scope of the regulation, Deputy Energy Minister Mithat Cansız announced Turkey will establish a mining company in order to conduct exploration and mining operations abroad. “This new company will obtain mining licenses in Africa and Central Asia, and start to operate as soon as possible.” Cansız said.
The deputy minister stated that the new company will be established under the roof of Turkey’s General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA). Aim of the company will be to become an active player in the global mining market, and ensure supply security of raw materials.
On Sept. 12, Turkey and Kazakhstan signed 22 bilateral agreements including mining, energy, machinery and chemicals.
Previously, in February, five consortia were set up by Sudanese and Turkish businesspeople in the fields of construction, energy, mining, agriculture and machinery during a business trip organized by YENİAD, an association for Turkish industrialists and businesspeople.
